MADTapirot Introduction

My work is mostly inspired by lines and body horror, especially the eyes. I enjoy using bright colours in my work to balance out the "weirdness". There is an aesthetic that I am learning more about which is Traumacore. The subject of this genre is about abuse or trauma intersecting it with childlike or angelic motifs. Traumacore is often frowned upon in the aesthetic community as it can be seen as a fetishization of a serious issue but for survivors, it can be a coping mechanism. Currently, I do not have any works that relate to this aesthetic and they are mostly "creepy cute".  Creepy Cute is a different kind of aesthetic where horror combines with adorable motifs. A lot of my older works were done in ink but as years passed by, I experimented with other mediums. My current practices are embroidery, pyrography and clay sculptures.

Media Arts sparked my interest after I looked for a different major in the AUArts website. There are few reasons on why I chose this major: I didn't want to focus on one medium, interactive installations are amusing, I have some basic knowledge in programming and seeing the exhibits and projects from previous MADT students fascinated me. Computational media is a great way to catch a viewer's interest especially in this digital age. My goal for this semester is to improve my programming literacy and to create more pieces that align to my interests, traumacore and creepy cute aesthethics, for my portfolio.
